Who We Are

FOI Assist has provided FOI and Privacy support to over 200 Government
Agencies including Government Departments, Local Government, Commissions, Boards and Statutory Authorities since its establishment. This has allowed for an
intimate understanding of the operations of Government and Agencies at all levels.

FOI Assist is led by Marita Dunbar who has specialised in Freedom of Information since her commencement as a Senior FOI Officer in a Government Department in 1998. That Government Department was also responsible for implementing the Privacy legislation in 2000 and as a consequence Marita has had extensive experience in both areas for over 25 years.

Marita provides assistance to her Government clients from a practical and
administrative perspective rather than a complicated and legalistic one, while still ensuring compliance with the legislation. She is considered to be an expert in both fields and is known for her frank and fearless opinion.

Marita has guided and taught inexperienced officers from numerous agencies during her career and has spoken extensively at different Government Agencies, the Leo Cussen Institute and the University of Melbourne.

Marita is also a qualified Court Registrar having held the position for over ten years before making the move to specialise in Freedom of Information and Privacy. Marita holds numerous qualifications including a Bachelor of Arts, Certificates and Diplomas in Public
Administration and Business, a Masters of Public and International Law and a Masters of Public Policy and Management both from the University of Melbourne. She also has a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, a nationally recognised qualification, which allows Marita to work as a trainer and assessor in Registered Training Organisations, such as Universities and TAFE colleges.

FOI Assist is supported by a very skilled team who have experience in Freedom of Information, Privacy and Records Management. The team has a range of backgrounds and has come from Government Departments, Local Government and the Private sector.
