Privacy Impact Assessments

A Privacy Impact Assessment is used to assess a project or program to determine whether it meets the Agency’s privacy obligations. It identifies privacy risks and strategies which can be implemented to mitigate those risks.

Privacy Collection Notices

The Privacy legislation requires Government Agencies to advise individuals when they are collecting information about them and to explain why it is being collected. This is called a ‘Collection Notice’.


FOI Assist can prepare your Collection Notices for you, or audit those you have to ensure they meet the
requirements of the Information Privacy Principles.

Investigate Privacy Breaches

A breach occurs when personal information that is held by an Agency is subject to misuse or loss, or unauthorised access,
modification or disclosure.

When a breach occurs, there are a number of steps to be
undertaken within a very short period of time. This includes taking action to minimise any harm that may arise.

FOI Assist has developed a manual and templates to assist you with the investigation process, or if you prefer, FOI Assist can conduct the investigation on your behalf.

Conduct Audits

Overcollection of personal information often occurs and the more you collect, the more you have to protect. Additionally, the more information you have, the greater chance of a breach. Do you know if you are collecting too much information?

FOI Assist can audit your forms, data bases and anything else you have that holds personal information to give you this advice. We can attend your Agency and assess your day to day operations and advise you if there are any breaches occurring that you are unaware of. Also, we can provide advice as to whether you are appropriately providing advice to individuals as to the information you are collecting about them.
